Romsey MP talks retirement housing on visit to Renaissance development

With retirement housing high on the Government's agenda, local developer Renaissance Retirement took the opportunity to host a visit from local MP Caroline Nokes at its completed development on Duttons Road, Romsey this week.

The site was formerly home to the borough council offices in the town before its sale, but has since been redeveloped by the retirement housing specialist with 52 superior one and two bedroom apartments. The link between local MP and the site's former use is a close one as Mrs Nokes served on Test Valley for ten years before entering parliament.

Following a tour of the development, which was carried out by the company's Managing Director, Robert Taylor, Caroline was introduced to one of the development's residents Anne Gorst, who spoke about her decision to move to the scheme. Industry issues were the next item on the agenda for the Romsey and Southampton North MP, who took the time to discuss wider retirement housing and planning matters with members of Renaissance's team.

Mrs Nokes commented: "I was very pleased to meet the Renaissance team at their newest Romsey development, the Fleur-de-Lis in Duttons Road. High quality developments such as this are exactly what is required in Romsey, particularly with the increasing numbers of over-65s looking to downsize and, crucially, with such close proximity to local transport links."

Managing director, Robert Taylor added: "I was delighted to be able show Caroline around our completed development and we're grateful for the time she spent with us. Given the recognition of retirement housing by the Government lately, we also really appreciated the chance to talk to her about some of the challenges that we face as we look to plan and build our schemes.
